Are Recurring Pain In Back, Knee And Thighs Signs Of DVT?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Jun 2016
Question: I am having off and on pain on the back of my knee and thigh... It feels like a deep elongated pain. I am wondering if this pain could be from a DVT. I do not currently have a DR, so I am looking at what is might be on line. We took a family road trip last week for spring break, and now I feel this off and on pain when I am sitting down on the back of my knees, and thigh. Before our trip I had fallen asleep in the lazyboy chair for a number of nights.

Brief Answer:
Less likely DVT. Could be knee arthritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Do you have shortness of breath ?

Do you have calf swelling?

Do you have knee pain ?

This is less likely to be DVT though you can get a Colour Doppler investigation to confirm. Keep your lower limbs elevated.

It is possible that the pain can be due to arthritis of the knee as well. It's common in your age group persons.

Avoid squatting, cross leg sitting, climbing stairs, kneeling. Apply hot packs to the painful regions. Eat Maltby. Keep well hydrated. You can take Tablet Paracetamol 650mg twice a day for 5 days after meals for pain relief.

Do get an Xray of the knee and colour Doppler of the veins if the lower limbs and review with me.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
