Brief Answer: Herbal medicines and natural food can help you... Detailed Answer: Dear I’m an Ayurveda Physician and I take this opportunity to enlighten you about natural and herbal products that are used in treating SRUS (Solitary Rectal Ulcer Syndrome). I would also like to know about following causes [if any] so that you can incorporate the prescribed herbal medicines and Dietary Regime in your condition. 1. Do you have any history of weakness? 2. any history of ingestion of morphine, iron, lead, nutmeg, catechu and/or other astringent. 3. Any iron, aluminium, calcium containing antacids, anti cholinergics, laxative abuse. 4. any associated problem of hemorrhoids? 5. Do you suffer from pyschological conditions such as depression, personality dysfunction, physical inactivity? 6. Have you checked your thyroid Functions 7. Do you have history of anemia, IBS, neurological disorders, recurring fever? A) SRUS [solitary rectal ulcer syndrome] is mainly concerned with long standing constipation due to which the person has to strain while defecation resulting in tearing of rectal mucosa and resulting pathology. Thus in terms of Ayurveda line of management is directed towards “VIBANDH”: [Purishvaha Srotas Vyadhi (chronic apana vayu vriddhi)]. I have seen my patients improve with the following diet old brown rice, green gram, pigeon pea, green vegetables, papaya, carrot, radish, cucumber, cabbage, bottle gourd, good fluid intake, morning walk, mango, black grapes, musk melon, raisins, dates, orange, pear, guava, honey, milk and lemon. It is also important that you avoid newly harvested rice, black gram, chick peas, banana, potato, spicy/fast food and lack of exercise. B) Besides that purgation with olive oil is highly safe. Include the following regimen in the morning on empty stomach . drink water after coming out of bed . eat 10 cashewnut+ 4 raisins and/or . drink 100 gm tomato juice C) Taking a spoon of turmeric powder everyday at bed time along with milk is very helpful D) Prescription medicine which I usually advice to my patients is/are Abhyarishta, Tab Herbolax, Panchskar Churan, Castor oil, Bilvadi churan, Kaumarya assav, Isabgol husk, Draksha assav. If you have an ayurveda physician nearby he/she can help you with locally available brands. PS. . Regular bowel habits with attempted bowel movements 15-20 minutes after breakfast when gastro colic reflex is strongest can improve your discomfort. . High fibre diet. . Adequate fluid intake Hope I have been helpful. Please revert back for any clarifications Dr. Munish Naimittika
