default
Posted on Tue, 14 Jun 2016
Question: I am delaying having a knee replacement, I have many allergies to medicines and antibiotics. I realize before surgery and after for the rest of my life I will need to take antibiotics before dental, colonoscopies, podiatrist, etc. appointments.
Is there a specialist I can consult with to narrow down an antibiotic and pain medication?

Thank you! XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Internal medicine sp.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
The best guy in your case would be an Internal medicine specialist who would discuss with your treating surgeon that which medicines should be avoided.
If you have the list of medicines that causes reaction to you then we would try to avoid them as far as possible.
In case you don't know which medicines cause reaction to you then your Physician would give strict instructions to the nursing that any least medicines should be used in your case and every medicine should be given in injectable form so that a initial test dose can be given to you and if you don't show any Allergic reaction to the test dose the whole dose can be given to you.
So, this is not a major issue for which you are avoiding your surgery.
Share my opinion with your doctor and go ahead for a pain free walk!
I hope it helps you.
If you have any further query, please ask me.
