Question: My cough and mucus smell like burnt popcorn, what would that mean if anything

Hello and thank you for asking in HCM

I can understand your concern

It is more important the color or the amount of sputum than the odour in se.

Usually the bad smell comes from gastrointestinal tract not from the airways. Probably gastric reflux or ulcerations of it causes this smell.

If you don't have any other symptoms such as difficulty in breathing or chronic cough and your chest X Ray is normal than nothing to worry about. Just try to drink a lot of water.
