Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
Dandruff or pityriasis capitis is flaking of scalp skin. Dandruff is usually seen in people with oily scalp and when scalp is not washed often. It is usually white, fine and powdery. However sometimes it may be yellow, sticky and associated with iitching and redness. Other conditions where you can get scaling of scalp is psoriasis, fungal infection, eczema etc.
Severe sticky, greasy dandruff may be associated with hair fall.

Now to answer your questions specifically
1)Treatment of dandruff
Use a ketoconazole and salicyclic acid/tar based shampoo like salisia Kt or keraglow AD shampoo. Apply it over scalp, keep it for 10 minutes then wash off. Shampoo your hair on alternate days
Apply antifungal steroid lotion like zydip c or candid b lotion over scalp twice in a day
Avoid oiling your scalp. If required apply warm olive oil/coconut oil for two to three hours then wash off.
Use right hair products. Wash your hair frequently

2)Hair fall
If hair fall is due to dandruff, it will subside once dandruff is gone. Hair growth can be further stimulated by application of minoxidil solution and intake of hair supplements

3) Cause and prevention
Dandruff as mentioned earlier is due to oily scalp, too much application of oil, use of wrong hair products, seborrheic dermatitis, other causes(psoriasis, eczema, tinea capitis/fungal infection)

To prevent or reduce it
Use shampoo meant to treat dandruff(salisia KT/keraglow AD)
Use right hair products like use shampoo meant for oily scalp.Never Apply conditioner or hair serum over scalp
Avoid frequent oiling of scalp.
Shampoo your hair frequently atleast thrice in a week

Hope this helped.
Take care

Hi, my wife is 31 yrs old. Her scalp is oily. She washes her hair once in 3 days. Also, she doesnt apply oil much. Rarely she applies it. She was using pantene dandruff ctrl shampoo and recently she changed to Nyle shampoo. She uses egg white or onion juice sometimes before hair wash.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back.
If her scalp is just oily and has no dandruff, washing it with a shampoo meant for oily scalp is adequate. If pantene/nyle suits her well, she should continue it. Its just that the shampoo should be for oily scalp. She may wash her hair whenever she feels that her scalp has become oily. If she has dandruff, she may follow the suggestions mentioned in my previous post. I wouldn't advise using onion juice over scalp as it may irritate the scalp.
Hope this helped,
Take care
