default
Posted on Sat, 22 Nov 2014
Question: My wife gave birth six months ago, but her stomach has not gone in back to the original form. It looks as if she's pregnant while sitting or standing. But while lying down stomach goes in completely and remains flat. My wife underwent c-section operation.

Brief Answer:
Diet and excercise

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Welcome to health care magic.

Following is detailed explanation and advice for you

1. Abdominal size increases in girth during pregnancy to accomodate growing baby. There is increase in abdominal fat and stretching of skin along with baby.

2. After delivery (Cesarean or normal) the fat and stretched skin remain.

3. After delivery in some women there is increase in fat due to consumption of excess fatty food like ghee and sweets (especially in XXXXXXX culture). This is accompanied by lack of excercise leading increasing abdominal fat and look as if pregnant(as you described in your case).

4. The best option will be to see a dietician and get a diet chart suitable for height and weight.

5. she might be feeding baby therefore this factor to be kept in mind while calculating calorie requirements.

6. Excercise is a must. She needs to walk at least 30 min a day for one month. After that she needs to join a gym under trainer to do abdominal Excercises.

7. She needs to be disciplined and regular with her diet and Excercise for maximum benefit. Do it consistently for 6 months to see results that are sustainable and long term.

Thank you Doctor for the detailed response. I have a followup question.

My wife's stomach has become very loose. It would go in like a rubber sheet when pushed with hand. It does not feel hard as it would when there is fat accumulated. As I said in first question, her stomach goes flat when lying down.

So, I would like to know whether there could be any other problem which we should worry about and whether there are tests to confirm.

Thanks again!

Brief Answer:
Fat

Detailed Answer:
Hi

There is no other problem. The fat is soft and it gets distributed while lying down. So you don't see.

It is fat and nothing else. Don't worry
