Brief Answer:
follow the advises.. maintain a healthy lifestyle..

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX Welcome to HCM..
I've gone through your query and understand your concern..

Now first of all I'd like to congratulate you for the thought of quitting smoking, as it proves that you're one step closer to it..

Follow my advises exactly as I'm listing below , and I wish you'd benefit from them..

1. You can't just taper it off, the only to stop smoking cigarettes is to stop at once..

2. Don't get motivated by the friend circle(we all have some, indeed) and re-start it in lower amount..

3. To reduce the cravings, you can try Mint containing lozenges(yes, they help a lot !), so whenever you feel like smoking, just put one lozenge in your mouth and gradually it'll subside that habit..

Alternatively, you can also keep few cloves in your pocket and try instead of the lozenge(It's up to you, whichever you feel like).. you can even try both of them alternatively, no problem..just make sure it shouldn't become too many..

4. Now initially if you feel like your heart is racing(that PALPITATION feeling!!), then you may need to to take a Tablet called as PROPRANOLOL , at a lower dose like 10 mg twice a day(this is a prescription drug, so you need to check in to your local physician to get it)..

However, I should assure you that many of my patients have successfully left smoking without the help of any medications, so that concern should be least thought of..

5. Nicotine supplement - this is important in the beginning phase as your body will need to re-adjust itself from the after effects of smoking, so you can simply try Commercially available Nicotine chewing gums at a daily basis(up to 4-5 gums per day to start with then gradually reduce it over a period of time) , you'll feel better..

I'm not suggesting nicotine patches at this moment, considering the summer season, as they tend to get very sticky..

6. Remember, stay away from commercials that promotes smoking, also, don't indulge in to movies which promotes that craving..

You must remain motivated all the times, so throw away anything pertaining to smoking , whichever is ever at home..they should not be at your eye sight..

You must have a strong will power to quit once it for all, and you'll do it successfully..

7. Keep yourself busy, so busy that the idea of smoking should not pop-up in to your mind (business not necessarily means work only, you can simply listen to musics, go for jogging in the afternoon, indulge in to any hobbies which ever interests you )..

8. Yes , chronic smoking has it's adverse effects on appetite also, so you can simply take Tab RANTAC 150 mg twice daily in empty stomach (15-20 min before breakfast and dinner) for the next 10 days, it'll help you with the eating..

Make a promise to your self that you'll leave this bad habit for good, and I'm sure you'll be able to do it..

Let me know how stay in the due course .. any further queries just let me know, i'll be glad to guide you..

Take Care
Kind Regards
