Brief Answer:
Some practical advises on what you can do.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query and for the follow up question.

Sleep is very important. Our body functions are very active during the night, so many calories are spend during the sleep. So it surely is a fact that has effected to slow the metabolism.

Also, the fact that the weight is located around the hips and waist is another indication that the main factor of weight gains is slow metabolism.
In women, the metabolism slows down more then in men, when they reach the age over 40.

What you can do is:
- First see if you need to do some changes in your diet. You may not have changed it, but it doesn't mean that it is completely healthy, otherwise you wouldn't have gained weight. Substitute breads and wheat products with more fruits and vegetables, Eat a lot of dairy products but with small amounts of fat, eat meat with lean ones, ect.
- Secondly, physical exercising it is very important. Walking, jogging and running. Start doing it gradually- 15 min for 5 days/week. Then increase 20 min and so on.
- Thirdly, the more muscles you have in your body, the more your metabolism will burn energy even when you are at rest. So do a lot of squats, planks, and other exercises who would help you make thicker the larger muscles in the body. Join a gym if it is possible for you so you can get professional advice in real time.

Hope this is helpful.
