Posted on Thu, 14 Apr 2016
Question: Hi, I had unprotected sex on May 6th 2015 with a girl who was in a relationship, she had a baby on the 26th of December 2015, what are the chances I could be the father? Baby was born healthy and naturally.

Brief Answer:
Unless the baby was premature, you are not the father

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

December is only 7 months away from May, so if the baby was full term (9 months, or more accurately, 40 weeks) she would have conceived in late March. If the baby was born around 7 months gestation it would have needed an ICU stay for at least a little while.

So if she delivered a healthy, normal weight baby it really is not possible you could be the father.

I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that this information was reassuring. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Best wishes,

Dr. Brown
