How To Determine The Paternity Of A Fetus?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Apr 2015
Question: Hi I had a question regarding paternity.

On January 26 I slept with my coworker for the first time. We Slept together again Feb 2, 4, 9 and 26.

On March 16 she told me she was 13 weeks pregnant and that it is mine because she had twins and I am a twin. But from my understanding of conception time it doesn't match up. 13 weeks prior to march 16 would place her conception sometime late December no?

I would just like some info to see if I'm it really is my child (children) or if she was with someone else. Thanx

Brief Answer:
Probable date of conception is in last week of December by calculation

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. We can calculate the approximate date of conception from the ultrasound age given as 13 weeks on March 16 2015. This is by using a standard computer based calculation in a normal woman having a 28 day cycle.

2. The Possible Dates of Conception: 29-Dec-2014 This can vary by a week earlier or later.

3. Please remember that this is a date that has been estimated by calculation and trust of your partner is most important in considering the paternity issue.

4. Though twins can run in genes, it is not always true that a twin will have twin offspring.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Thank you this was what I had been thinking. I spoke to her yesterday and she claims she was 6 weeks pregnant and had an abortion the week of the 16. She didn't want me to go and had her sister go with her. She hasn't shown me any paperwork either. To my understanding you have to wait to have an abortion if you are 6 weeks pregnant right?

Brief Answer:
Laws are set aside for abortion and is discussed below

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. Abortion laws might differ in every state and has to be done before 24 weeks.

2. In New York the law says that after 12 weeks it should be done in hospital on in-patient basis. After 20th wk., 2nd M.D. must be present to handle medical care of any live birth

3. Till 12 weeks I suppose an adult woman can take her own decision.

Hope your query is answered.

Thank you for the information. She's also told me that in 2004 she had tubal ligation, or had her tubes tied as it were. She said she also had an ablation due to heavy periods. Yet she still claims she became pregnant.

I guess I'm just wondering what are the chances of that actually happening to a 39 year old woman in the first place.

Brief Answer:
Please find details below

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. I have had patients who got pregnant even after tubal ligation. The most probable reason is that the surgery was not done properly.

2. In case of your partner, trust is very important when having a relationship. Use of condoms is regularly advised when having sex with multiple partners. Right now you might have to give benefit of doubt to her and accept her what she says. The chances are surely less for a 39 year old woman but not nil.

Hope your query is answered.
