Brief Answer:
possible wrong dates if baby is fine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
If you had your last menses on 9th august then you definitely didn't conceive in july but in august post the menses and hence your due date was may 19th.
But as your baby delivered by 8 weeks earlier, by 32 weeks, the baby should be a preterm baby and you had a premature onset of labour.
If the baby is fine and not underweight then you definitely have wrong dates.

Yes she was a Preterm baby she was only 3 pounds and 2 ounces when she born..but she okay with no health problem..she spend 26 days in NICU
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sameer Kumar (0 minute later)
Brief Answer:
in that case you conceived in august.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
If the baby is fine and a preterm then your dates are correct and you conceived in august rather than in july.
NICU stay indicates that baby must have had difficulty in breathing due to immature lungs and must have been given surfactant and steroids to allow lung maturation for allowing breathing.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Ultrasound, infact helps determine the exact gestational age of the child in cases where date of menses are not known, so ultrasound is fairly accurate in predicting the age of gestation with a discrepancy of around 5-10 % only.
There is all likelihood that either you may have had cervical incompetency or you may have had a vaginal infection which would have led to premature rupture of membranes , initiating an early labour.

My water broke at 29 weeks so i was in bedrest for 3 weeks in the hospital..another question i know you already answer the question but if i was pregnant between july 27 to 1st of august would my period still have come in august 9
doctor

Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
No, your periods would not have come at all in august, you would have simply missed your menses.
You did have a preterm rupture of membrane and with 3 weeks rest , i am sure you must have been given antibiotics and steroids for preventing infection or chorioamnionitis and for foetal lung maturation. So its evident now i hope that you conceived in august.

What is a difference between a 32 and 36 weeks baby? Is it normal for a 36 week baby to only weight 3 pounds?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sameer Kumar (2 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
answered

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
A 32 week baby has an immature lung and surfactant is not produced by then unless antenatal corticosteroids have bene given earlier and the weight gain of 3 pounds at 36 weeks make the baby underweight and and a growth retarded child, so possibly a case of severe IUGR with PROM.
Baby needs to be cared a lot and prevented from infections as his natural immunity shall be very low.

Due to my questions yesterday does it really neccesary to get a DNA paternity test done?

Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Well, if there is a skepticality in your mind and if there are two men involved here, then the final and definitive confirmation as to the fatherhood of the child would be conclusively cleared by a paternity DNA TEST for sure. You may opt for it if you wish, but going by your history, it is evident that you conceived only by august.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
So you had severe oligohydramnios and secondary IUGR which caused foetal distress and hence i feel it was the right decision to culminate the pregnancy and deliver the baby early. But the birth of the baby still doesn't change your date of conception which i believe has been calculated both ultrasonologically and with naegle's formula. So the question of paternity with regards to an early birth doesn't actually arise. The father is likely to be the person who was with you in august.

Thanks for the answers i apreciated it..people keep telling me my baby is so small..does 3 pounds 2 ounces is a normal weight for a 32 weeks baby
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sameer Kumar (2 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
answered

Detailed Answer:
Well, ideally speaking it is not the normal weight for a 32 week old. It should be around 4.5-5.5 pounds at that gestational age but we do have a reason that baby didn't grow and thats oligohydramnios or decreased amniotic fluid which caused the growth retardation , but the baby can easily catch up growth outside the womb now with demand breast feeding practices.
Please feed the child well now that the child is already out of NICU, it would catch up growth, don't worrying few months.

Do take care of her and stop worrying. The child would do just good. Dont really listen to people much, keep the paediatrician in loop and you are the best judge for your child , remember this.
Take care.
