How To Determine The Biological Father Of A Child?

Posted on Thu, 13 Nov 2014
Question: Please help. If you are 35 weeks pregnant and the doctor says its growing slow but nothing to worry about and the weight of the fetus is 2470 grams, does this mean that the due date could be out by a week and you are 34 weeks pregnant?

Basically, my boyfriend and I found out a girl he was seeing before me is pregnant, I am devastated!!! She doesn't now who the father is. My boyfriend last slept with her on the 2nd of February and she also slept with another guy on the 26th of February.

Her due date from the scan is November 13th putting her LMP on the 6th of February. However, my boyfriend told me she took norethisterone to delay her period a few days before the 6th of February. She then came on her period the 12th of February till the at least the 17th after stopping this pill. My boyfriend knows this because the next and last time he saw her was the 15th of February and they didn't sleep together because she was on her period. I have worked out that if she has conceived from my boyfriend then she would be full term now and not due on the 13th. Also she delayed her period and therefore her cycle shifted, putting this other guy in the middle of fertility. Am I right? Also does the weight of the baby show this? I know its difficult to tell as babies grow differently, but she has been told that she is growing slightly slow but no cause for concern. If it were this other guys, her due date would be the 19th of November, which is only a few days out from the original due date.

Please help me and offer advice, I am really finding this hard to deal with and I dont want another woman to have my boyfriends child.

Brief Answer:
Your boyfriend not the father

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Your boyfriend is not the father, you dont have to worry about that.
Weight of the child has nothing to do with paternity. If you are so concerned then I suggest you to do a DNA test to know for sure if the child is your boyfriend's, however for all practical purpose he is not the father

Hello so the boy of the 26th of February is most likely to be the father? She only slept with my boyfriend on the 2nd and him on the 26th. She delayed her period by a week with Norethisterone 5mg so that means her cycle of 28 days (she is regular because she knew when she was going to come on around February 6th because she last had a period on the 9th of January and has a 28 day cycle). Does this mean her ovulation shifted along with the first day of her LMP?

Why does the dating scan say her last menstrual period was the 6th of February, when she had it on the 12th of February? Im really confused.

Hello

Thanks for getting back

Last menstrual period is given by the patient and it is not estimated however the dating scan can vary a lot. It depends on many things like genetics, nutrition , co morbid conditions, etc. So the true date scan can vary upto 2 weeks.
If she has had a period after she had sex with your boyfriend then there is no way he can be the father unless he has had sex again after her period during her ovulation Regards

The other guy is the most likely father. There is no doubt about that unless your boy friend has had sex again after her periods

Thanks, he definately didn't because he met me on the 16th of February and didn't want to see her again. So it's possible she ovulated later in the month on the 26th?

Brief Answer:
No chance of pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Hello

If your boyfriend did not have sex after her periods then the question of when she ovulated doesn't arise. Your boyfriend is not the father, you can be at peace.
