Posted on Sat, 24 May 2014
Question: I normally have pretty low blood pressure. 130/60/70 ish? I take Zarelto and another blood pressure med daily. (I am soon to be 80) I have not felt very well today (weak, wanted to lie on the couch all day, didn't want to eat. etc). my blood pressure now is 178/98.

Brief Answer:
Please, control this value again!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear of this blood pressure reading that is high and seem to be very different fro the usual blood pressure reading. Because this is a one tie reading, I will not jump into interpreting it. I will suggest that you gt some two more readings and send to me for interpretation. If they should be abnormal, then I will want to probe into the different possible causes of this. For now, we lack so much information to this this single value and make any modification to treatment.

A blood pressure of 13060/70mmHg is normal.

I hope this helps and addresses your query. I wish you well and thanks for using our services, Please, feel free to ask for more information should need be. Please, do update me with more information about future Blood pressure values.

Dr. Ditah, Just to let you know. My blood pressure went from 172/120 down to
169/80 a few hours after I spoke to you.
This morning at 7:30 it was 128/77
At 2:30 this afternoon it was 121/74.
Thanks for your response. I didn't want to go to ER unless it was absolutely necessary. Nov 2013 this happened, only worse, and I was in ICU in XXXXXXX for 4 days. I think I was afraid of a repeat. I seem to be back to normal. XXXXX

Brief Answer:
Happy to hear this!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up information.

I am happy to know you didn't go to the ER. At least it is good news that we could reassure you not to rush to the ER immediately and it proved helpful.

Keep an eye on the numbers and remember a simple reading should not cause you to panic but a more sustained abnormal readings should.

I wish you well and always talk to me when need be. I will gladly be there for you.
