Posted on Mon, 27 Jun 2016
Question: My wife 25 yrs , weight 90 kg ( before pregnany she was 72 kg) is passing through her first pregnancy with due date tomorrow ie 21st MAY 2016. she had her last MC
( period) on 14th aug 2015. Everything is normal with proper baby growth inside as per sonography and doctor (gynco). Now Doctor is suggesting for INDUCED LABPUR PAIN delivery method. So my question is..
a) should we wait for some more days so that natural labour pain may trigger natural delivery.
b) what is the chances that Induced labour technique will result NATURAL DELIVERY WITHOUT going C- section method.
c) Risk factor associated in POST DUE DATE delivery of child and Risk factor associated wiyh INDUCED Labour technique. Kindly suggest which one will be more favourable for my mrs. Case.
Kindly suggest suitably at the earliest since DUE DATE IS TOMORROW please.

Brief Answer:
Depends on non stress test and ultrasound scan.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Your wife is 40 weeks pregnant. At this point you can wait for the normal labor pains only if she has no hypertension, no pregnancy related complications, baby is growing normally, liquor is adequate on ultrasound scan done in last three days and non stress test is reactive.
You can get the test prescribed by your gynecologist or get it done at her clinic.
Even if labor is induced with medicines, the chances of normal delivery are 50-60% depending on your wife's physical condition, position of uterus and cervix.
If you wait for normal pains without ensuring that the baby is well inside then there is a chance of decreased liquor and fetal distress resulting in an emergency cesarean section. Induced labor is a safe technique and is done to avoid any baby related distress. Do let her gynecologist examine her and get a non stress test and ultrasound scan done and then decide.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
