But I would like to inform you that the treatment for schizophrenia is generally for a long term and it may persist for 5-6 years as well. At the end of 5-6 years , depending on the treament response and recovery, the decision to continue or stop treatment is taken. The fact that your psychiatrist has advised to continue the medicines suggest that on examination probably he has found that the symptoms have not been controlled totally. In that case, the treatment may have to be continued further. So the final suggestion is continue your drugs and plan to stop them only when your psychiatrists says so to you.
