How Long Liver Enzymes Remain Elevated After Alcohol Intake?
Brief Answer:
Answer given below
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
In alcohol induced liver damage the AST raises more than ALT. In your case the ALT is higher than the AST. So I do not think the raise was due to alcoholism.
But now that it has come down to normal, there is no need to worry.
Coming to your question of how long the enzymes remain elevated after alcohol intake-
If you quit drinking alcohol and if there is no other cause for raised liver enzymes, the enzymes will return to baseline levels in about 3 months time.
I hope that answers your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.R.K

Thank you for your quick response. At the time of the elevated enzyme test I was also taking 1000mg of L-Lysine supplements, including the morning of the elevated test results and have heard from several people that it can in fact raise the levels. I quit that as well before the test that came back to the normal baseline. Have you heard of this supplement having that affect?

Hi,
Lysine is an essential amino acid and it is not synthesized by the body. Lysine is provided to the body through food items and as supplements.
It does not cause a raise in the liver enzyme levels.
