How Long Does Marijuana Stay In The Body?

default
Posted on Wed, 2 Jul 2014
Question: I have smoked marijuana twice in the last 5-6 months, about 3-4 hits each time. Most recently being over a month ago. I had to take a hair follicle test this morning for pre-employment and am wondering about my possibilities of passing. I am very active and have medium length hair. I washed my hair in tide and colored it a couple of weeks ago.

Brief Answer:
likely not detected

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Hair drug testing relies on the fact that since the hair receives nutrition from the blood stream, the use of marijuana and other agents should show up in the hair.

The detection is not altered by washing though colouring may have an effect in some.

Normally the detection period is up to 90 days (this is for head hair, longer for hair taken from elsewhere).
A medical study looked at risk of detection for daily user and for non daily users (use 1 to 5 cigarettes a week). In non daily users, the chance of detection was 52%.

Since you used only twice in the last 5 to 6 months, then your chance of detection would be lower than this 52%.
It is difficult to estimate but the risk may decrease to 20 to 35% for detection. Therefore the chance of non detection is 65 to 80%.

It is likely that the use may not be detected.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
