Brief Answer:
Between 15 to 30 minutes. No worries, safe

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,

Generally, when tonsils are operated, they are generally removed in a procedure called a tonsillectomy. The duration of this procedure shall take into consideration several factors. The clinical state of the patient and whether after the presurgical work up, the patient can withstand surgery.

In normal patients, and as young as you are, the procedure depending on the method usually lasts between 15 to 30 minutes. It is a very simple and safe procedure, especially in the hands of an experienced ENT specialist.

You really need not bother for its not a complex process. There are techniques today that make blood loss very minimal. A good pain control after surgical and antibiotic coverage is important, and the procedure is relatively simple and safe, especially in experienced hands and in persons with minimal cormobidities.

NO worries for now and kind regards.

Answered by Dr. Luchuo Engelbert Bain (3 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Not complex, about 10 to 15 mins, no worries

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the update,

Tonsillar interventions are generally benign in patients in good general health shape. In case of sectioning, abscess drainage or stone removal, the key aspects is freezing and anesthesia. After patient preparation, this procedure takes a couple of minutes and rarely exceeds 10 minutes. I really do not think there is need to worry.

Thanks and kind regards as I wish you the best of health.

How do they freeze it
doctor
Answered by Dr. Luchuo Engelbert Bain (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
Lowering tissue temperature to minus 300 F

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the question,

This is a safe, painless and bloodless method of removal of the tonsils. A probe is usually placed in the tonsil containing liquid nitrogen, which helps in lowering the temperature of the tissue ti minus 300 F, and the tissue becomes painless and "dies".

The tonsil can be then manipulated, stones removed, abscesses drained or tonsil removed. It is a relatively safe and can be done as an office procedure and patient treated as an out patient.

Kind regards

Answered by Dr. Luchuo Engelbert Bain (22 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
No worries. local anesthesia or sleep

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the follow up query,

In your case, you might not necessarily need to be made to sleep. Local anesthesia and anesthetic sprays should be sufficient. Some ENT surgeons however would still make one sleep. Modern sleeping techniques and drugs are available today and make you get awake a very short while after surgery, and it really should not make you very very disturbed.

Answered by Dr. Luchuo Engelbert Bain (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
No worries, minimal side effects in such brief op

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,

Modern anesthesia, though general is very very safe today, and you really need not bother. Your pre operative work up for sure qualifies you to be able to support general anesthesia. Medications used these days and relatively less toxic and post operative recovery time is short, and post anesthesia symptoms and very minimal and almost non existent in simple and short surgical procedures as such.

You really need not bother. Kind regards

Brief Answer:
Rest, positive, simple analgesics, see Dr id disch

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the update,

In case you do not have any ear discharge at this point, simple analgesics like Acetaminophen, as you await to see your doctor would be enough. In case of ear discharge, the opinion of your ENT doctor would be needed. Getting enough rest, relaxing and being more positive towards your health with less unnecessarily being stressed is my advice.

Kind regards
