How Long Does Percocet Remain In The System?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Dec 2016
Question: Hey, I normally take Norco for my back problems. My appointment was scheduled 10 days after my prescription was going to run out. My friend knew that I was in severe pain over the 3 day weekend I took a total of 6 percacetso. I took the last one yesterday, around 10 a.m. If they are able to work me in today or tomorrow will the doctor be able to detect it as a different narcotic?
I also forgot to mention that I have been seeing this doctor for 5 years. I have had about 6 or 7 random screenings over that time. I have never failed 1, but then again, I have never taken anything, but my pesription.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

The rate that Percocet (oxycodone) is cleared from the body differs from one person to the next depending on how much of certain enzymes they have in their liver. After a single dose, half of it is eliminated in about 4 hours. There is a smaller percentage that won't be eliminated for 24 hours.

If the type of test used tests for opiates in general, there won't be signs of whether it is a different drug used. However a panel that looks for specific narcotics will show this as 2 different narcotics. Norco is hydrocodone, and Percocet is oxycodone.

Still, it would be worth going to see your doctor so that you are not without any treatment for your back. Maybe your doctor will understand if you explain that you ran out before you were able to get in to see him/her?

Note: For further queries, consult a joint and bone specialist, an Orthopaedic surgeon. Book a Call now.
