Question: How long after HIV exposure can you get mouth thrush?

I have a red/little sore redness on my bottom lip (junction upper to bottom) and I am in panic mode whether it is thrush or not.

Brief Answer:
This is stomatitis; Add a B complex vitamin supplement

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

I have taken note of your query and I have also reviewed the Image.

This is not thrush. This is Stomatitis i.e inflammation of lips.

I suggest you to add a B-Complex vitamin supplement.

Thrush or Oral candidosis usually presents with creamy white adherent deposit on buccal mucosa or tongue which when scraped reveals a red base.

Though thrush may develop relatively early in HIV infection and is recurrent and prolonged in these patients.

Is it possible for this to cause tiny little white spots...had only a couple no bigger than a needle head and when scratched bled for two seconds???

I just want to write off thrush.

Brief Answer:
Mild/ self abortive episode of aphthous stomatitis; not thrush

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

I really rule out thrush altogether. You can relax.

This is simple stomatitis.

What I can see in the Image is in fact a mild form of Aphthous stomatitis though there are no obvious sores.

The tiny white spots (probably necrotic epithelium) which you scratched and which subsequently bled could have formed because there is inflammation and edema of labial mucosa and probably a very mild/ abortive episode of aphthous stomatitis, without XXXXXXX ulcers.

In XXXXXXX Aphthous stomatitis however ulcers are surrounded by a red rim and edema.

I suggest a B complex vitamin and a mouthwash.
