Question: Recently went to my Urologist for an enlarged prostate examination. When he inserted his fingers, it felt like he was taking something out of my rectum ,but was still attached.
He told me he was measuring it and it would only be 2 minutes.
My question is ....was it my prostate that was taken to view?
If not what was it ?
Thank you

Brief Answer:
it was your prostrate only that was being viewed
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to HCM.
The prostrate is situated at the base of the urinary bladder and is situated very close to the anterior wall of anal canal and rectum.
So this anatomical position comes handy to examine it by inserting a finger into the anal canal. During this examination, various aspects of prostrate are evaluated, namely its size, consistency, mobility of the anal wall over it and any pain felt during the evaluation. These all have very important bearing on the diagnosis and management of prostrate diseases specially to distinguish between benign and malignant conditions.
To measure the size, the doctor tries to reach till the upper border of it, this is the time you may feel that its being pulled out, but that is not the case nor the intention.
Hope i have been helpful.
