Posted on Tue, 2 Jun 2015
Question: HSV 2 result 1.12. Very confused regarding different opinions from numerous doctors and i have never had any outbreaks. My boyfriend's HSV 2 0.13 and we have had a lot of sex; daily and there have been times twice a day. Please explain these discrepancies with the professional opinions. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Please find facts about HSV 2 infection transmission and test results below

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. HSV 2 anti bodies are commonly found in many individuals and the infection is also transmitted without sexual contact.

2. The HSV 2 antibodies generated in your body show the immune response to the HSV 2 virus after it entered your body.

3. The immune response of different individuals to HSV 2 infection varies a lot and that is why your test reading is 1.12 and his is 0.13.

4. 70 percent of HSV 2 infected have adequate circulating antibodies approximately 3 months after infection and the rest of them might take a longer tine to develop antibodies.

5. Laboratory tests for HSV 2 might also differ in their positive results and therefore it will help to confirm if both the tests were done using the same technique and had similar reference values.

6. Not every one having sex with a HSV 2 infected partner will get the infection therefore having lots of sex does not really mean he will get the infection.

7. Nearly 60 percent of HSV 2 infected people never get symptoms and come to know of their infective state only after doing antibody tests.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
