How Effective Is Scrotoscope For Excision Of An Epididymal Cyst?
Question: Still kinda freaked out about the potential operation to remove epididymal cysts and fix a varicocele. If it's all necessary, I'd probably opt for the microsurgical technique for both. However, I have recently read about using a scrotoscope to aid with epididymal cyst excision. It would still involve an incision, but a much smaller one (as is my understanding), and it seems it's just as effective as open surgery. Should I ask the urologist about this being a possibility?
Really I'm looking for the minimum possible invasiveness to treat these ailments, but at the same time, most effective as I'm hoping not to go through this all again. I have pretty severe tomophobia, especially when it comes to procedures in the testicular area.

Brief Answer:
Both are routine surgeries.
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX and welocme to HCM.
As an Urologist, i must assure you , that both are routine surgeries.
They're done under regional anesthesia only, and patients are discharged same day.
At some places, they're discharged, next day.
So you don't need to worry about this at all.
Micro-surgery is preferred by most Urologists and is standard operation.
However, Scrotoscopy is also done routinely at some centres.
There's not much difference in the two.
Recovery is similar.
Wish you a speedy recovery.
Hope you're more relaxed and cheerful now.

Brief Answer:
No need for anxiety.
Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
It's usually done in one session, as both are routine surgeries.
It doesn't need two sessions. Neither is a major surgery.
The recovery time is same. No difference at all.
There's no need to go to hospital twice for minor surgeries.
Doing it together, helps you also, as your rest period is only one.
Get well soon.
No need for anxiety.

Do you mean recovery time is the same as it would be with macroscopic surgery of the same type? Or that recovery time is the same in that since both will be done at once, one won't overlap the other? Either way, 7-10 days is my understanding. I just wondered if the preciseness of having it done microscopically might quicken the recovery time. Mine are very small, so will probably require epididymal dissection. Will this add to my recovery time? What kind of numbers on the pain scale can I expect after having this all done?
I'm aware that after surgery I'll need a dressing of some sort, probably with scrotal support. When it comes to having to use the bathroom, is there some sort of trick to it? Do I pull the support aside? Pull it down? Will there be a hole for my penis? It's a bit confusing since they say to leave it on for 24-48 hours.

Brief Answer:
An elastic scrotal support, that's removable is used.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX.
A scrotal support is routine after these surgeries.
Macroscopic surgery may take slightly longer recovery time.
The scrotal support is a removable elastic one.
It doesn't cover the penis. So having a pee isn't a problem.
Pain threshold varies in each person.
The exact recovery time is difficult to predict.
But usually, people get back to work in a weeks time, or earlier.
Hope your doubts are cleared.

Will I be allows to take anti-anxiety medication prior to surgery? One huge concern is operative awareness, which has happened to me in the past with wisdom teeth extraction. How long does the anaesthetic last? Is there a precautionary measure I can take to ensure I don't wake up with horrible pain?
Brief Answer:
Only regional anesthesia used .
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX.
This kind of surgery is done under regional anesthesia at most centres, where you're awake, right through.
In general anesthesia, you're made unconscious, where there's a time lag to become fully awake.
Taking anti-anxiety medication shouldn't be a problem, if needed.
