default
Posted on Tue, 17 Jun 2014
Question: Hi. I had an IUI procedure on 25 may 2014 (late night). My doctor has advised me to take duphaston 10 mg (morning and evening one pill) from 28 may 2014. The doctor has also advised me to take a gonapeptyl 3.75mg injection on 1 XXXXXXX 2014 ( 7 days after iui). Just want to check the use / need of this gonapeptyl injection and if it is safe to take this after an iui procedure

Brief Answer:
Usually not advised

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Gonapepdyl contains triptorelin.
Which acts as LHRH (Lutenizing hormone regulating hormone).
It is usually used before preparing for artificial reproduction techniques.
It helps in down regulation means shutting down of pituitary-ovarian hormones.
After the procedure, progesterone supplementation can be given to support the pregnancy.
But gonapepdyl is not having any specific role in post procedure stage.
Actually it is contraindicated in pregnancy according to the literature available.

So, before going for injection, you once again discuss with your doctor.
