Question: I was in Cancun Mexico last week and developed a sore throat that turned into a cold, coughing, sneezing runny nose. Felt somewhat better then returned to the states. I have continued to cough, loose phlegm cough, color slightly yellow, no chest pain. I now started having diarrhea, 3 days after my return, I did not eat anything unusual, no pain but it is frequent. Bad headache last night, somewhat better today. I am a Factor V Liden on comedian for the past 7 years. I wore my compression hose for the long flight and was a 3.4 INR before I left. I am very fatigued do not have a fever.

Brief Answer:
Drink many fluids, rest and do report the progress to me!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I'm so sorry to know the problems you're facing and will try to help you in the best way possible.

It seems you must have suffered a viral infection of the upper respiratory airways and the digestive tract. This is normally a self-limiting infection that requires no antibiotics.

We manage such symptoms only and allow the body to fight it. I will recommend that you get ample rest, drink many fluids and continue with Tylenol. Unless something else comes up, these symptoms should abate within 3-5days.

Tylenol is normally taken at 650mg every 6-8hours after food. For fluids, drink as much as you can so as to avoid getting dehydrated. Please remember, diarrhea doesn’t worsen the metabolism but dehydration does. Also, take steam inhalation thrice daily, for the time being, it'll help with further dilution of those secretions and phlegm.

In case symptoms don't improve within another 1-2 days or any further worsening of symptoms, then you may need to get yourself checked up by your local physician in order to determine the nature of infection as well as for possible initiation of antibiotic therapy.

I hope this guides and helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
Kind regards
