Brief Answer:
You're going to have to go to the ER

Detailed Answer:
They have rather strict confidentiality on this. And the needle is easily found and removed with x rays to spot it. But it can do considerable damage if not removed and it can easily lead to infection that will be far harder to deal with. Immediate simple removal of a foriegn body is quite easy and fast.

is it possible it would flow through my vein? I am a former paramedic, but am unaware of any cases, i am embarrassed and have severe anxiety! I would prefer extracting myself, but I know that's not wise

Brief Answer:
There are a lot of possibilities.

Detailed Answer:
I've seen cases of migrating needles but not in this sort of context. They can travel through flesh and maybe through some wide spaces like in the gut. but it wouldn't be able to get thru bends like the elbow.

Well Doc, I would really prefer to extract it myself, it's above the elbow in the bicep! Do you think I could be successful doing it myself without causing further damage?

Brief Answer:
No, because you have not already.

Detailed Answer:
There are simple situations in which the needle is obviously visible and you just go with any sterile tool and pull it out. The fact that it isn't out already says it isn't visible. If it isn't visible it is far harder to do it oneself blindly than with x rays to assist. Digging around in a muscle is not a good idea even if one is a professional. There are arteries and veins and tendons that can be damaged rummaging around.
no.
