How Can A Blood Filled Bump On The Foot Be Treated?

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Sep 2017
Question: Dropped something on my foot earlier, must have hit the vein because immediately there was like a "blood filled sac" under my skin on the top of my foot. I put a cold pack on it and elevated it, and the pain has gone, but the "sac" (which I'm guessing is what's called a hematoma) is what's worrisome. Wondering if it could burst, get worse, etc. I was able to stay off of it today (it's been about 5 hours now, elevated and on ice) but i have to work tomorrow and I'm on my feet all day. Just wondering if there's anything to worry about. I'm 36 yo, male, no medical issues, really (except for acid reflux and stomach issues due to poor diet (that I've basically gotten under control by eating better), and I'm on no medications).

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HealthcareMagic..
I thank you for posting your query here and I'm definitely going to help you out..

I read your question completely and have understood it well enough.
I being a surgeon, we encounter so many such cases day in and day out..

Please note..

1. Yes you are absolutely correct, it's a Hematoma.

2. Do not worry, most of the times it will subside on its own.

3. Do not apply cold or ice.

4. Limb elevation is good.

5. You can use Thrombophob ointment for local application.

6. Give some time, take NSAID group of drugs if you are having pain, and it should heal.

7. Yes, sometimes it gets complicated with abscess or pus formation.
But do not worry, you are young and should recover.

Hope this helps you..
