How Accurate Is A CAT Scan And Skull X Ray To Show Bump On Scalp?

default
Posted on Wed, 10 Dec 2014
Question: how accurate is a cat scan and a skull xray to show if a bump on scalp is serious or not?! also if reg blood work that is ordered in the ER came back normal... as far as blood count.. etc. does that rule out any infection esp cancer? since I noticed the bump on the back of my scalp about a month or so ago, I can't stop worrying about it. Neuroloist, Dermatologist & ER Dr. told me it is nothing to worry about... but I know I never had this bump. Touching it too much.. will it cause it to become more sensitive?

Brief Answer:
Benign lesion most probably a sebaceous cyst.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,
Thanks for your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query I concluded that you may be having a benign (non serious) lesion most probably a sebaceous cyst. It is unlikely to be cancer as CT has already been done. It is unlikely to be infection as blood tests are normal. CT, skull x ray and blood tests cannot completely exclude the cancer. You are so much worried I think it will be better for you to get it removed by surgery and send for biopsy which will accurately exclude cancer. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Wishing you good health.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
No,Women has less protuberance bones.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back

After going through your query and follow up query I want to say that women does not normally have large occipital protuberance bones than males. All soft tissue swellings will be removable. If it is not removable,it means it is bony swelling or as you suspected larger occipital protuberance bones. In case of bony swelling CT must have show any abnormally if it cancer. So if it is bony than nothing to worry about and removal is not needed. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

thank you! one more ? from touching the area, it is bothering me now. is there any home remedy that you know of and or if I cover it up with a bandage to avoid touching it until I see Dr in person? Could a benign lesion cause pressure or is it from me touching it? appreciate your great/direct responses that have put me at ease.

Brief Answer:
Touching is a habit and only you can control it.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

After going through your query and follow up queries I want to say that touching is your habit. Only you can control it. No home remedy or bandage will help. Moreover only touching will do no harm. A benign lesion can also cause pressure. It seems unlikely to be do to touching. You can take ibuprofen if it is painful. Anxiolytic such as alprazolam will be of help in relieving your anxiety. You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then please don't hesitate to write to me. If you have no clarification then you can close the query and rate the answer.

Wishing you a good health. Take care.
