What Causes Anxiety, Heart Palpitations And Blurred Vision After A Botox Shot?

Question: Hi there,
I hope you don't think I'm crazy. 7 weeks ago I had Botox preformed and 2 days later I felt ill. Well my DR. confirmed that it knocked my tsh level out of whack. It ended up being at nearly 0. I was a crazy woman. Since then my level has returned to the lowest level of normal but I still feel off. I can cry at any time I get a pressure like feeling in my head and I'm still very anxious, heart palpating, blurred vision in addition to other symptoms. I still feel very much not like myself. Should I be feeling well by now? Also to let you know I had Botox prior to this and experienced no problems.

Brief Answer:
Immunogenic reactions

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

It is very uncommon for the botox to disturb the thyroid levels. Since, Botox is known to elicit a strong immunogenic response which can affect glands in the body, yes low tsh could be due to the same.

Need not worry, such reactions are most of times reversible and do return to normal. Since the side effect is due to immunogenic reaction, it does take time to wane off. I suggest you to stay patient and get the Tsh levels checked periodically. You can wait upto 12 weeks for the tsh to come to normal, if not you may have to get the thyroid gland evaluated completely.

Hope, I answered your query.

Wish you good health.

I realize this is uncommon. Do you think the symptons are normal? I have what seems to be a lot of neurological symptoms. Ears clogged and burn, head feels really heavy and foggy. Blurred vision( comes and goes) tongue feels like it swells, heart palp, lip feels swollen, numbness between eyes. Nervous like uncontrollable. I have a hard time dealing with any social situtations even though i'm normally very social. I feel so unlike myself and that i have no control over my emotions.
Now that my tsk level has increased should i expect to return to normal? Also could my menstrual cycle contribute to keeping my hormones imbalanced?

Today my endocronologist called and said my tsh level is normal. Im still having anxiety. I didnt have anxiety prior to this episode. When do you think i should expect the anxiety to subside and i start to feel normal?

Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

Yes, your symptoms are expected ones in such immunogenic reaction.

Yes, your tsh will come to normal but it does take time.

As long as Tsh stays abnormal or you have above symptoms, your menstrual cycles may be disturbed.

Brief Answer:
Yes,

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Symptoms of hypothyroidism persist for weeks even after the tsh return to normal, as the symptoms entirely depend on the active T4 levels. T4 levels may take time to come to normal.

Yes, your anxiety too would come to normal. Be reassured, it is the only way you would get out of the psychological symptoms.
