Question: My nine year has been extremely tired, step throat, swollen neck glands, low grade temp, but...they say her liver and spleen are not swollen. About 1 1/2 weeks ago...headaches. Nose bleeds. 2days after giving her amoxicillin she got a rash....3 weeks later they say not mono for the reason of no issue with white count, liver or spleen. Could she have mono if those symptoms presented 3 weeks earlier that her blood tests? I aysos cared for her she is tiny for her age.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

I request you to not to worry.

Swollen neck glands and low grade fever can also be because of streptococcal throat infection. The rash since it appeared after amoxicillin was started could be because of the drug.

Was a throat swab culture done for the suspected streptococcal throat infection. This will give a confirmation of the diagnosis. Please update me regarding the throat swab culture report if available. Since the doctors examined your child and mentioned that liver and spleen are not enlarged it is unlikely that it is mono. White cell count is also confirming the same. Did they do any other test. Please inform me of the same.

How is your child now?
Did the fever subside? What is the temperature recording like? Request you to update me with temperature recordings.
Is she accepting feeds normally? Are there any vomiting?
How is the throat pain? Is she able to swallow?
Are there any associated complaints?
Is there any history of cough, cold, burning urination, frequency of urination etc?

Please reply in detail so that I can help you better.
Wishing your kid a early recovery...

Take care

Yes, she was diagnosed with strep..2 1/2weeks after compaints of extreme tiredness and headaches
She also has reoccurring diarrhea, low grade temperatures, no appetite, and 3 nose bleeds. She has been too weak at times to sit up
Thank you for your help

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

The diarrhea could be because of the amoxicillin that she is taking.
To a certain extent loss of appetite will be present during such illness in a kid.
One of the common causes of nose bleed in children is nose piking. If that is ruled out we will have to know her platelet count and blood pressure to identify the cause of bleed. What is the platelet count of your child?

Please reply.
Take care.
