Have Stage 4 Lung Cancer. Undergone Radiation And Chemotherapy. Any Effective Treatment?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 May 2013
Question: My 65 yr old wife has a recurrance of lung cancer that has metastisized into her the crest of her iliac bone. She had a pathological fracture (no bearing) in March which had been healing nicely.
A lesion of the left ischial tuberosity has increased in size to 2.4 cm from 1.5cm.

A lesion of the right acetabulum has increased to 2.9cm from 1.5cm. She has undergone radiation and now chemo. How treatable is this stage4 cancer? Thank you.

Dear Sir,

Sorry to hear about your wife's problem. Unfortunately Stage 4 lung cancer has a poor prognosis. The only treatment available is chemotherapy (the response to which depends on the type of lung cancer). Radiotherapy can be used for metastasis to the bone.
Despite all the treatment, it carries a poor prognosis. You should consult an oncologist and discuss the future line of management. You should also consider consulting a palliative care doctor to take care of her pain.

Hoping for the best. Please feel free to clarify any other query.
