Question
My question concerning geographic tongue is what is the best remedy to cure it or keep it under control…..currently I’m taking

Temovate .05% gel and clotrimazole troche 10 mg. Should I drastically change my diet, continue to take these prescriptions, try

any homemade remedies, etc. What would you suggest?

Brief Answer:
Avoid spicy foods, quit smoking, use steroids.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
welcome to XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns.

You can continue Temovate gel ( steroid ).
Clotrimazole troche is not necessary.
Because Geographical tongue is not a fungal infection.
Geographical tongue is a benign condition.

1. Avoid hot and spicy foods
2. Quit smoking
3. Do not use tooth paste which containing whitening agents or flavoring agents
4. Take diet XXXXXXX in iron and Vitamin B and C.
5. Anti histamines like cetrizine and topical anesthetics are helpful in relieving pain.

Hope this helps.

Thank you......Just a few of questions:
--is the cetrizine a prescription drug or over the counter?
--what would be the other anesthetics and are they over the counter?
--do you know what would be a good brand of toothpaste?
--would there be any negative side effects from taking steroids on a consistent
basis?

Thanks for your help

Brief Answer:
Over counter. Side effect on long term use.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
You can get cetrizine and anesthetic gel ( example Lignocaine gel) over the counter.
When comparing oral and systemic, oral steroid gels have very less side effects.

I am sorry about the toothpaste, I don't know which brands are available in your place, you can ask for a bland one when you buy it next time, I am sure you can get that.

Hope i answered your query.
