Question: I have a silicone breat implant 23 years ago how do I find out if it is leaking and what would the symptoms be?

If a silicone breast implant ruptures/ leaks you might not notice right away — or ever — because any free silicone tends to remain trapped in the fibrous tissue (capsule) that forms around the implant. This is known as a silent rupture. Still, a ruptured silicone breast implant might eventually cause breast pain or changes in the contour or shape of the breast. You might need to undergo a scan/MRI to detect any changes in the breast. Hence, I advise you to consult a plastic surgeon(breast reconstructive surgeon). Finally, breast implants are not lifetime devices. The longer a woman has them, the greater the chances that she will develop complications, some of which will require more surgery, so its time to clinically get evaluated for the same.
If this happens, your doctor will likely recommend surgical removal.
