I am Dr.Ratnakar Kini and I pleased to answer your query.

Inguinal swelling could be due to many causes and that includes inguinal hernia and enlarged lymph nodes.

Since you have fever also, enlarged lymph nodes is a likely cause as infection can cause enlarged lymph nodes and fever.

A complete blood count and a clinical examination may be done for further evaluation.

If the swelling is very tender with the overlying skin appearing red, report to your doctor immediately.

I went to a Dr. She prescribed an antibiotic, ultrasound and blood tests.
