I am 59 years old female. I had Lap chole in 2004. From 2007 I am suffering from abdominal pain , dyspepsia, reflex etc. In 2011 I had endoscopy and diagnosis was Hiatus hernia and Gastritis, Medicines advised were 'Happi, Happi IT, Lactulose, Drotin DS etc. In spite of the medication the problems resurface periodically. Please advise.

After you had your Lap Chole , I am sure that
your gallbladder problems are over. Hiatus hernia
and gastroesophageal reflux is a common problem
that we deal with. It is not so much the hernia but
it is the weakness of the sphincter muscle between
the junction of stomach and esophagus. The wekness
allows the acid contents in the stomach to back up into
the esophagus causing damage to the lining and erosins
or ulcers. If this goes on for a number of years and not treated
properly , this could lead to Barrett's esophagus which is
pre-cancerous because of the change in the type of lining.
The most effective drugs are the PPIs or proton pump inhibitors
which cuts the production of acid by the stomach cells.
Omeprazole,Lansoprazole,Rabeprazole,Esomeprazole are all good.
You need to take it once or twice a day about an hour before
meals and stay on it for 6-8 weeks.
Also, make sure you avoid excess caffeine, alcohol, spicy foods,
and milk products since they contain calcium and can stimulate
acid. Tomato based products, citrus also increases acid.
Stay away from smoking as nicotine can lower the sphincter pressure
making reflux worse.
You can discuss these with your doctor and the PPIs I mention are
now available without prescripton.
I wish you well.
