Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for your query.
There could be a number of reasons for the type of bleeding you describe.
It could be pregnancy or a pregnancy related complication like a failed pregnancy or an ectopic pregnancy.
It could be endometriosis , uterine fibroids, an ovarian cyst etc.
There could be a possibility of cervical growths, polyps or erosions that could cause this.
Irregular cycles could be due to anxiety, stress, emotional upheavals, hectic travelling, recent fluctuations in weight , thyroid hormone disorders, high prolactin levels etc.
Prolonged and heavy bleeding is often seen with anemia, ingestion of other hormonal medications etc.
You definitely need to consult a doctor, without which it is extremely unwise to self medicate her.
She requires thorough pelvic check up, relevant laboratory testing and then treatment as required.

Take care, and feel free to ask further questions.

there hasnt been a fluctuation in her weight
she is under stress thought as far as travelling goes the the only out of the ordinary place she has been was fl to c her mother but that was awhile back this is very unusual for her as far as length and it being as heavy
no i wasn't going to self medicate her but i did want a better understanding of what it could possibly be so that i could use it to try to get her to go

It could be one of the many conditions I mentioned.
A gynaecological opinion is in order.
