Dilaudid contain hydromorphone. It is a very potent centrally-acting analgesic drug of the opioid class. It is a derivative of morphine. It is, in medical terms, an opioid analgesic and, in legal terms, a narcotic.

Its half life (reduction of concentration to 50% in body fluids) is 2-3 hr. It is metabolized in liver and excreted by kidney.

On average, single 1mg drug use, it will last in blood, saliva or urine for 2-3 days. In long term use it will last in these body fluids for 6-7 days.
