Does Waiting Near The X-ray Room During Pregnancy Affect The Fetus?

default
Posted on Fri, 26 Aug 2016
Question: When waiting for nt scan at 12 weeks of pregnancy i observed that the scan room is opposite to xray and ct scan rooms. Since we are waiting at the same corridor will the radiation will come to corridors also? I heard radiation is not good for pregnant women? Is it something to concern about ?

Brief Answer:
There are radiation protection guidelines in place which are followed

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

There are guidelines under atomic energy regulatory board (AERB) which checks that construction of x ray rooms and CT rooms is done such that there is no radiation leakage during CT scan and X ray. The walls are made thick and non penetrable to scattered radiation.

Therefore no radiation will leak in to the corridor and affect you or your baby. Please be assured that you are safe and there are guidelines which are followed when using x ray and CT scan machines.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
