Does Unprotected Sex Cause Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Fri, 20 Mar 2015
Question: Hi Doc, i asked you about my girlfriends pregnancy risk as i gave her iphill within half hour after intercourse ( my sperms were not ejected inside her)and you replied there is negligible risk involved.

i also told you that she said there is some drops of blood on her undergarments but that was WRONG she called again and said she mistook it and there was no blood.should i be worried?

secondly you said there will be delay in her cycles.how many periods she will face the delay and by how many days the delay is normal, she said once her period was delayed by 10-14 days.should i wait for so many days and what it it dosent occur even after that. her next periods are by 3 march

And after the periods occur does it completely rules out the occurrence of her pregnancy.

for how many months there are risk involved that she might be pregnant and on a fare note.how much are the chances of her being pregnant .
she is having some headache before she slept.

is it necessary to take pregnancy test if her periods occur on time i.e by 3march

please if you can clear my doubts i will be very thankful.its quite stressful time for me.thank you
doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
I am sorry for the slight delay in response, due to technical reasons, I could not access the internet.
There is a very negligible risk of pregnancy in your case, as I explained earlier.
The I pill contains some hormones, in response to those hormones, some women experience a withdrawal bleeding or spotting.
SOme women do not.
Both situations are normal.
So even if she has not had any bleeding, or even in case she bleeds in a few days, do not worry, both are normal situations.
The I pill can delay her period by upto 10 days.
You can safely wait uptil the 13th of March for her periods.
If she still does not have her periods, a gynecologist should be consulted and an ultrasound scan of the uterus and ovaries should be done.
You can contact me again at that time, if that arises.
Just take a pregnancy test on the 4th of March, that will reassure you.
IF she has her normal periods, yes, it completely rules out risk of pregnancy.
After her next period, there is no further risk of a pregnancy.
ON a fair note, chances of her being pregnant, are less than 5 % .
Headache etc are common after the I pill.
If she has her normal period, then no need is there to take a pregnancy test.
Hope I have answered all your questions and cleared the doubts.
If you have any more doubts, I would be happy to resolve them.
Just write in and I will be more prompt this time in responding.
Take care.
Dont stress out, it wont help at all.
Just relax, and feel free to discuss this anytime.
