Does Tick Bites Cause Very Low Heart Rate?

default
Posted on Fri, 27 Jun 2014
Question: Will tick bites cause electrical problems such as a very low heart rate? I am scheduled for a pace maker next week and the doctor says it is caused by a tick bite. I have had several tick bites this spring.

Brief Answer:
Yes, ticks can cause this!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this electrical problem with your heart. Ticks can cause this condition when not timely diagnosed and managed appropriately. The most common cause is Lyme's disease. If you are in an endemic area or travelled to one recently, this may be the most likely cause. Unfortunately, the changes are not reversible but luckily enough, medical sciences are able to offer some options to help address this condition. I am optimistic the pacemaker would prove very helpful in addressing your symptoms.

I hope this addresses your query fully. I hope you tolerate the procedure and get this cardiac electrical problem corrected. I wish you well and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications should need be. Thank you so much for using our services.
