Posted on Fri, 19 Jun 2015
Question: After a recent blood test for my physical, I was found to have aTSH level of 12.62 mU/L, with a T4 level of 7.10 ug/dl. I have been advised to begin Levothyroxine 25 MCG. I also use Humira Pen 40 ml once every two weeks. I have been using Humira Pen with limited side effects for the past nine years. Did the Humira use help cause the thyroid issue, will there be future issues develop taking both, and do I need to be concerned about looking at alternative treatments to my new thyroid issues. I am 55 years old. YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
there is no interaction between these drugs.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Considering the results of your blood tests ,you have Hypothyroidism. It is a very moderate grade of hypothyroidism.
This condition is not associated or caused by Humira. The only connection might be with the condition ,which is being treated with Humira. If you have an autoimmune condition ,the risk of developing other autoimmune conditions ,including an autoimmune condition of thyroid gland is high.It is called Hashimotos's disease and it is the most common cause of an underactive thyroid.

There is no interaction between Humira and Levothyroxine ,so you can take them both.It won't cause any problem in future and you don't need to look at any alternative treatment.

Hope it helps.
Please feel free to ask if you have any question or need any clarification.I would be happy to help.
