Does Severe Abdominal Pain Require A Medical Consultation?

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Nov 2017
Question: I am having pain in my right upper abdomen which begins with throbbing which intensifies, then I have a quick stabbing pain followed by the intense throbbing pain which gradually lessens and then the cycle begins all over again. Should I be worried enough to go to the ER?

I guess I should have let you know I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Types 1, 2, and 3. I am not certain if this will help you in answering my initial question.
How long does it, generally, take to have a question answered anyway?

Brief Answer:
Different possibilities, primary management explained.ER visit advisable.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear

Warm welcome to Healthcaremagic.com
I have evaluated your query thoroughly .

* This pain seems in relation with different possible causes as

- liver condition ( swelling or others )
- gall bladder issue ( calculus or inflammation )
- biliary tract lesion ( infection or stone )
- others

* This pain does not seem to be in concern with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome .

* While primary relief with cap. omeprazole ( 20 ) mg and anti spasmodic
tablet ( dicyclomine or drotaverine ) can be obtained ,
visit to ER is strongly recommended to get ultrasound of the abdomen
& pelvis for work out of the cause and further management accordingly .

Hope this will help you for sure .

Wishing you fine recovery from the same .

Regards dear take care .

Thank you for the reply, however, the pain finally disappeared after several more hours. Now I am not having the pain at all. I believe it ended up having something to do with constipation or needing to have a bowel movement.
I appreciate your answer. If the pain returns then I will go to the ER immediately. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
