Does Raised ESR Level Have An Effect On Home Pregnancy Test?

default
Posted on Thu, 6 Aug 2015
Question: I am having joint and muscle pain from tha last 15days.visited a doctor, he asked for few tests. Haemoglobin is 11.04,rheumatoid is negative and ECR is 36/hr. What might be the cause of joint pains? Besides, i am planning for pregnancy and my period is delayed by 5days. Took home preg. Test on 3rd day but it was negative. Is there any possibility that i might be pregnant but due to high ECR count.? Pls advice.
I wanted to know that is it possible that i am pregnant but home preg test is showing negative due to high ECR in my blood??

Brief Answer:
Raised ESR does not interfere with pregnancy test.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns.

You are having joint and muscle pain since last 15 days.
Did you have any fever before that?
Has the pain increased, decreased or remained same in severity from day 1 to now?
Are you taking any medicines?
Which joints of body pain most?
Have you taken any medicines for joint pain?

ESR is a marker of some inflammation in the body. High ESR value does not affect the result of pregnancy test.

You can go for blood beta HCG levels to cinfirm the pregnancy status.

Kindly discuss this with your doctor.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
Thanks.

Mam i did'nt had any fever and the pain increased as days past due to which my left knee was kind of jammed and movement bexame painful. I took painkiller for relief. Besides that, mostly all the joints from ankle to thigh troubles. Touching and pressing the areas are not painful.only movements create problem.

Brief Answer:
orthopaedic surgeon's opinion needed.

Detailed Answer:
Raised ESR and pain during movement suggests inflammation of joints.

It is not associated with fever. This rules an infectious cause for it.

I would advise you to consult an orthopaedic surgeon for this problem as this is beyond my area of expertise.

You can take painkillers as needed.

Hope this helps.
I wish you well.
Thanks.
