Does Intake Of Prednisone Cause Optic Neuritis?

default
Posted on Thu, 23 Jun 2016
Question: I have been diagnosed with optic neuritis in my right eye with an MRI. There is no pain with movement but imy vision has gotten worse in the few I've had it. I also have noticed a hearing loss on that side as well as tongue and gum numbness as well. I'm on oral prednisone 12 day. This is day 6 and starting yesterday my head is ringing from ear to ear and I feel a tightness from temple to temple. Is this a side affect of the prednisone? My neurologist still has no diagnosis and is wanting to send me to MUSC. I e had two abnormal MRIs and an abnormal spinal tap. I'm desperate for answers! What's wrong with me?

Brief Answer:
Not a prednisone side effect, read below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Optic neuritis symptoms include pain, vision loss, loss of color vision, flashing lights, but don't include issues that may be related to hearing and tongue.

Causes include multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica, and viral infections.

So, this is not a prednisone.

Please upload the MRI and spinal tap reports, in order to understand better your condition.....
