Does Hypertension Cause Transient Ischemic Attacks?

Question: I thought I had 2 days to answer upon opeining and clicking on the answer, which I didn't. And I paid for this on Dec.9th in the evening, so I should have all of today - I DO NOT WANT MY THREAD CLOSED!
I WOULD LIKE THE SAME DR. XXXXXXX BN; it would make it easier!
Plus, I had a mini-stroke on Sat, XXXXXXX 2 when I wanted to get back to this, and then problems with our computer for a few days, until today, with switching over to windows10. My reference # is HCM164650 !!!! My thread started on 12/22! Can you help me out! plus, I have only about 10 maybe 15min's right now, as I have to get ready for a DR's appt., and I will have more time tonight. My time should not be up!

[I will have to be really brief] . so, I had a mini-stroke on XXXXXXX 2, at 10am in the morn. My right hand went numb, it swelled up (I told my husband afterwards that it started to look like a creature's hand) and was puffy. It only looked like tissue, it looked a SMALL blown up balloon, my fingers were going to the sides and every which way, as I HAD NO CONTROL OVER IT, AND COULDN'T FEEL IT! Then it started spasing from the wrist, up and down. I went to the room where my husband was, and by then 1minute later, 90% of the swelling went down and u couldn't tell, but I still couldn't feel it. He said it was nothing. About 2minutes later, we went to get coffee in the kitchen, and I said "yes, i'd like some "co____". I couldn't get the word coffee out and I didn't know the word for it either. Then about 45seconds later, the word came to me in my mind, BUT I STILL COULDN'T SAY THE WORD COFFEE!
I put my clothes over my pj's since i had just woken up, and we did go to the ER. Having appt this aft w/a doctor for a followup. have to go, and then i can see your answer, But how can my previous thread w/my stomach pains tie into it? thinking it is uterine fibroids. I saw my gyno yesterday, and she agreed along w/endometrios, or even ovarian cancer. having ultrasound for that on Monday morn.
oh, and my Blood pressure is high. 179/99 at the hospital, and now around 151/101 typically the last 5 days. ok have to go. thank you.

Brief Answer:
Blood pressure should be controlled by antihypertensives.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for asking.

As your blood pressure is high it should be maintained by taking antihypertensives. Transient ischemic attacks (ministroke) can be due to high blood pressure also. Anti thrombotic agents like aspirin should be taken for long term to decrease the risk of stroke also. If you didn't get these you should have a follow up with your physician.

Have you done ECG and CT scan of head after you get ministroke?
Also if possible upload the ultrasound examination report to know the status of uterus and ovaries? Only after the ultrasound report it is possible to confirm if it is fibroid causing your problem.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

Yes, with the TIA and my high BP, I am worried about having another stroke. [Ii have had problems w/my right arm twice before. And I remembered two days after the TIA, that my left temple above my ear was fuller/puffier/expanded a bit more the nite b4 it happened. Is that strange?

But at least we know my BP is high now, and can take steps to control it. We are not there yet; the DR I met w/on Friday afternoon (right b4 I wrote the last question), said he would like to take another blood test; it will be sometime nxt wk, see the hospital records and results from Jan2 mini-stroke, and I have a physical w/him on XXXXXXX 18. So I imagine I will be put on some meds for that, but we would like to find out the source of it!! Oh, I did have an MRI and an EKG, and blood work of course, where nothing (blood work part) was explained to me. I imagine that will come from my DR?

The other issue still, is the possible uterine fibroids (1 possibility out of 3 so far)>ultrasound on Mon for that. But the gyno also mentioned she wanted to give me a biopsy but can't w/the BP still so high.. So how will that get resolved?

So i'm waiting til have ultrasound and more blood work nxt wk...

thanks for your coming info.

Brief Answer:
High Blood pressure itself is a risk for stroke.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up.

High blood pressure is a risk for stroke again. So it should be controlled by antihypertensives. Antihypertensives like ACE inhibitor or Angiotensin receptor blocker group drug is a must in that also. Along with this aspirin also should be taken for long term. If your lipids (cholesterol) are above desired levels a statin also should be taken. This will decrease the incidence of stroke. You can ask the physician for these.

The symptom you said about your arm is strange. The vessels of extremities should be examined and doppler should be done to rule out any atheroma blocking the vessels.

Hope to see you better soon. Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

Hello.
Been thinking i'd like to take an asprin (i took two low-dose ones at the house b4 we went to the ER, as a nurse friend said to do that as my husband ck'd my smile and asked me 2 state names), but i'm waiting for the additional blood tests i will be taking. I figure i want it pure, to not screw up the test w/changes.

I will copy what you said about the doppler and ask my DR on the 1/18 appt. I don't know about any cholestral problems - our nurse friend (my husband's godfather, Peter) looked at a copy of my labs from the ER that i brought with while we were watching Hawks football game yesterday, and he said my glucose and sugar levels were normal.

i guess i will know more when i see DR on 1/18, and then getting today's Ultrasound results, on Wednesday. (so i will keep this active w/you, so i can find out more...). Wed i'll know more i imagine. Worried a bit about those results too. Not natural to have all these pains and bulge in my stomach!

til next time. thanks.

Brief Answer:
Low dose aspirin like 75 mg is helpful.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up.

Low dose aspirin like 75mg I helpful to prevent stroke and thrombotic events. LDL cholesterol should be kept below 100. If above 100 then statins like atorvastatin or rosuvastatin should be added also.

Update me with your results. Hope for the best. Don't worry.

Feel free to ask any time . I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
