Does Excessive Weight Loose Cause Skin Sagging And Wrinkles?

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Mar 2016
Question: Is it true that if I loose a lot of weight, my skin will bag, sag and wrinkle thus making me look older? I'm in the process of trying to loose about 50 pounds (not all at once - 20 to begin with) and the prospect of looking quite a bit older is bothering me. I have never looked as old as I am - even when I was young - which was the pits when I was 18 and people thought I looked 13. But now I'm rather enjoying it.

Brief Answer:
This is true for severely obese but surgical correction available.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

The answer to your question depends on how fat you are. If you are too fat, you tend to have not only a higher body weight but a bigger body surface area. This means that in certain parts of the body there is more skin and subcutaneous tissue which will get crumpled or baggy if the underlying fat is gone. This will look significant only if the fat content of your body is significant. If the fat content is moderate and if proper exercise regimen is designed so that the underlying musculature gets reasonably enhanced to give you a healthy physique, the excess skin will get underlying structures to mold around and you will not face this problem.

Hope I have been able to explain it to you.

The answer was good as far as it went, but I would have preferred my age to have been taken into account. If skin elasticity and toning exercises would be as less effective for me than a younger person. Or or other variables . . .maybe - I would have to do more exercises, it would take longer . .

Brief Answer:
Multiple factors needs to be kept in consideration

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

I have already taken your age into consideration while previously answering your question. For toning skin, botox can be used. About the effectivity of exercises, it depends upon your physique and excercise tolerance rather than your age. Talking to a gym trainer would be more helpful in designing the exercise regimen that would be right for you.
