Does Excessive Benedryl Intake Cause Kidney Damage?

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Apr 2014
Question: I just received a BUN/creatinine ratio of 26-- I think it was from my excessive use of benedryl (no more than regular dose, but each night for weeks) to try to sleep. Have I permanently hurt my kidneys? I see my doctor in two weeks.

Brief Answer: Need not worry Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for your query. BUN/Creatinine indicate kidney damage but not always in permanent one. Once you stop taking Benadryl which could be the cause, kidneys will revert back with full health. Need not worry. Drink ample amount of water for a better wash out. Do consult the Nephrologist for better management. Wish you good health. Regards,
