Does Cord Blood Storage Help In Treating Medical Issues In The Future?

Hi Doctor ,
Its for cord blood storage , My wife is expecting a baby in few days and we heared a lot about steamcell storage banks , like cryyo cell where we can store the cord blood of our baby
my questions are
- is the cord blood is really very helpful in treating medical cases in future
- can we donate the cord blood to public bank like XXXXXXX in XXXXXXX
- which one have the more the possibility of matching it at the time of need , the private one we are storing or the public one where we are donating
- Public cord bank sayes they will provide us the matching cell in case of need
- Since the public one is free so we decided to donate it there , but we can opt for the private one also if its really very useful
- I read some where that the chances of matching our own cord blood are less , is it true
- is the steam cell treatment cost is very high as the private cord blood bank is providing a medical insurance of rs 20 L
- How many medical illness can be treated by it ?

2. Private or public.... the most important thing is cross matching.. which cannot be predicted or guaranteed now.
3. Own cord blood or others...as I said...cross matching cannot be guaranteed or predicted now. But theoretically chances are better with own cord blood.
4. Treatment with stem cell is definitely high... insurance is desirable.
5. The number of diseases now amenable to treatment include mostly blood related disorders like blood cancer or immunodeficiency or hemoglobinopathies. In near future myopathies and Alzheimer's may be amenable to treatment.
