Does Common Vision Problems In Kids Require Glasses?
Question: My 5 year old had an eye exam by a pediatric eye doctor. They said he has 20/40 vision, farsighted. I was given a very strong prescription for him to wear glasses all day. I have read though, that it is not uncommon for kids his age to have this type of vision and it can be expected in development. In his every day activities he doesn't appear to struggle with sight at all. Just yesterday he put a necklace on his sibling without a problem and did it rather fast. He doesn't have any issues in preschool either with learning/reading/etc. Should he really have glasses? I am concerned that if he truly would not need them and then I give him the glasses, his eyes may not correct on their own, therefore setting him up for needing glasses the rest of his life when it may have been avoided.
