Does Alcohol Intake Cause Vaginal Bleeding?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Dec 2014
Question: Am a binged drinker. I can go without alcohol for a months. I had been drinking for the last month up to 2 bottles of vine a day. I stopped 2 days ago. I experience some mild pain under my lower ribs and some pressure on the chest. I do have a back pain and near right shoulder blade. Today I started bleeding from vagina. I thought it's my period ( due in 4 days). But the bleeding is much lighter( dnt need a tampon). Is the bleeding connected with drinking for such a long time? Thank you

Brief Answer:
Alcohol unlikely to cause vaginal bleeding

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
I understand your concern..

Alcohol is unlikely to cause vaginal bleeding.. But long term use of alcohol can cause irregular cycles though there is no well controlled study to support the theory..

Since you have bleeding just 4 days prior to your expected date, I would suggest to get a pregnancy test with early morning urine sample.. Implantation bleed will be lighter than normal.. If pregnancy test is negative dont worry, this could be your normal periods..

The tightness in the chest, pain in the ribs, and shoulder pain can be as a result of alcohol withdrawal.. You can take some analgesics.. But if pain doesnot get relieved in a day or two, consult you doctor to get a detailed evaluation..

Hope I have answered your query.. Feel free to ask any doubts.. Good day..

I had early miscarage on the begining of september. That would be my second period since then. The last one was on time and i didnt have intercourse since then. My tummy also seems bloated and there is some pain in lower back. Am really worry is something wrong with my liver. I have seen a doctor a week ago and after examination he said my tummy seems fine but back thn i didnt have any pain under and between a ribs .

Brief Answer:
Alcohol withdrawal is a more likely cause, don't worry...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..

All these symptoms could be due to alcohol withdrawal.. Take an analgesic for pain relief.. If symptoms doesnot get relieved, consult a doctor for a check up..

Bloating sensation and low back ache is unlikely to be liver problems.. This could be a menstrual cramp..

Hope I have answered your query.. Good day..
